OUR STORY

Armadillo on a desert highway.png

The Fonctionnaires (Rob Kerr, Cam Werner, Brad Holy, Chris Hierlihy) came together in mid-2022 driven by their mutual love for Americana and roots music. Soon after Lindsay Bradley joined the band as vocalist, they were on their way to their inaugural gig opening for their pals Mike Sharp and Local Honey at Toronto's Cafe C'est What? in late 2023. Since that time, the Foncs have regularly played gigs at many of Guelph's well known venues.

The Foncs are always on the hunt for those treasured deep cuts from some of their favourite artists - Lucinda Williams, Emmylou Harris, Steve Earle,  Levon Helm, Buddy Miller and many more - and give them their unique Fonctionnaires take.

GUITAR, VOCALS
Rob Kerr comes from a long jamming tradition that has informed many of the bands he has played in over the last many years. Rob formed the Fonctionnaires soon after moving back to his hometown in 2006. After a revolving lineup of some of Guelph's finest players, Rob convened the current, and awesome,  lineup of the Fonctionnaires in 2023. Rob also currently plays guitar and contributes vocals to Guelph's infamous Flying Pants.

PEDAL STEEL
Chris has been pivotal to the current formation of the Fonctionnaires. Rob met Chris at a blugrass jam and they agreed to get together and see what happens. Once they did they knew the modern Fonctionnaires were on their way. Chris also introduced Lindsay to the band and solidified the sound that the Foncs are known for. Chris is fast becoming Guelph's go-to pedal steel player. He is currently side-man to local troubador, Harry Fallon  and bass player for Lindsay and the Ruminators.

Cam Werner

BASS, VOCALS
Cam has played his upright bass for more artists and bands than you could mention. Coming from a bluegrass tradition, Cam brings the rootsy Americana sound the band is increasingly known for. He is currently the bass player in a number of local bands - Chesterfield and the Sofa Kings, Probable Cause and the Flying Pants to name a few.

DRUMS
Brad hails from Kingston Ontario where he started playing and touring professionally. Along with Cam on bass, Brad contributes to a rhythm section that can rock or make it soulful. Just how the Foncs like it. Brad also currently plays drums for local heroes Mike Sharp and Local Honey and The J-strokes.
